Bio
From her home high in the hills of New York State, Betty Pillsbury creates works of art that suit her fancy.  She taught herself embroidery at the age of eight and continues to experiment with many techniques.  Over the years she has stitched hardanger, pulled and drawn thread, silk and metal embroidery, needle lace, bobbin lace, stumpwork, silk ribbon embroidery, wired ribbon, Brazilian, heirloom sewing, surface embroidery, dyeing, beadwork and more.  In 1990, while living in England, she read a magazine article on crazy quilting.  That article changed her life.  Crazy quilting is what Betty loves best as she can combine many techniques into one cohesive whole.  Betty also enjoys the historical aspect of crazy quilting and has an extensive library of antique and modern resources.  She also collects vintage textiles, including several crazy quilts.  In 2001, Betty appeared on Simply Quilts on HGTV to demonstrate crazy quilting.  Make sure to catch a repeat of this show on August 19, 2004, at 8:30 AM EST.  She has also appeared on the PBS production, "Quilting Nebraska". Her goal as a teacher is to inspire her student's creativity by providing an understanding of the basics while encouraging individual interpretation.  Excellent craftsmanship and artistry must blend for the most satisfactory outcome.
